We spent a couple of days with Rene St Onge exploring one of many cool zones in the backcountry around Sicamous in BC, Canada. Rene is a very experienced rider who has spent almost every day riding in this area during the winter, so he is aware of the snow conditions and where it’s more stable and less stable. Usually you should avoid slopes like the one on the photo below, but the last week had shown more stable snow conditions so Rene gave it a try.
Remember to always have the right avalanche gear and that your friends have it too. Go one at the time at a slope and make sure you pay attention to where everybody is, in case someone trigger an avalanche and need to be rescued. Photo Hans Wärdell Photography.
